Description of the model:
Cereal porridge made from coarse rye meal boiled in water or milk was a typical main meal for the poorer European population in the Middle Ages. The bowl certainly shows the Sunday version with milk and an apple, which had to be enough for eight to ten people.
In fact, it doesn’t taste bad at all, savoury and nutty. Comparable to today’s wholemeal muesli, it is a little hard to chew and very nutritious.
The model was exhibited as part of the 2012 Bavarian State Exhibition at Rosenberg Fortress in Kronach. ‘Franconia’s Bulwarks’ from 17 May to 20 October 2012, the exhibition showed, among other things, the difference between rich and poor in everyday life in the Middle Ages. It was organised by the House of Bavarian History and the town of Kronach.
The model is made of high quality epoxy resin and coloured using non-fade paint and varnish. The model can be removed from the original medieval bowl without leaving any marks.
