Further Informations
The learning box with its tactile models is aimed in particular at people with visual impairments, but is also very suitable for inclusive lessons in primary and special schools. The box can be used in the classroom but also for an adventure day in the forest. The models are rainproof, robust and yet easy to handle. For further tasks and activities, the box also contains additional tactile aids and space for collection items.
The project ‘The copper beech’ by the model group ‘Forest in a box’ is the beginning of a series of projects and was made possible by a grant for artists to compensate for disadvantages in connection with the coronavirus SARS-CoV2 in 2021 from the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
In front of you is the result, the edition ‘Die Rotbuche’ of the series ‘Wald im Kasten’. It consists of a robust and weatherproof box containing 7 tactile plastic models of the European beech. They show elements of the tree at different times in its life cycle.
Why a ‘Forest in a box’ series of learning boxes? In recent years, climate change has led to increasing concern about forests and the need to protect them. It is essential in its importance for the earth and our environment. This is why a sound knowledge of the relationships between trees and forests is becoming increasingly important. Local forest trees as elements of the forest ecosystem, as a biotope in their own right and as an important supplier of raw materials are therefore the subject of the ‘Forest in a box’ series, which will also focus on other tree species after the European beech.
These will also be offered individually in boxes, but can also be combined with each other depending on the main theme or added to if desired.
