Aves
Order: Passeriformes
Family: Paridae (Sittidae)
It is a resident bird of deciduous woods and parkland, with some old trees for nesting.
Found throughout temperate Europe and Asia, although not in Ireland and the mediterranean area except Sicily.
Nests are in holes or crevices, lined with bark or grass. The size of the holes entrance may be reduced by the building of a neat mud wall.
The model shows a typical posture of the Nuthatch. It has the ability, like other nuthatches, to climb down trees, unlike species such as woodpeckers which can only go upwards.
Susanne Henssen made the model.
The model was cast using high quality polyester resin, reinforced with glassfibres. It was coloured using non-fade paint and varnish. We use glass eyes.
