The Wood Sandpiper lives during breeding time in marshy areas or at lakes and rivers. Beyond the breeding time he can be found at lakes, ponds and other waters with muddy shores. Even if he prefer the close by of the coast he is rarely seen at the seashore.
Migrates through almost whole Europe on its way to Westafrika, where it stays during winter. Breeding areas are North Scotland, Denmark and further East.
The model shows the Wood Sandpiper in breeding feathers in a standing posture looking backwards.
The body-length of the completed model is about 21 cm.
Susanne Henssen made the model 2001 in co-operation with Philipp Bauer (zoological preparator, Adetswil, Switzerland).
The model was cast using high quality epoxy resin, reinforced with glassfibres. It was coloured using non-fade paint and varnish. We use glass eyes.
bodylength ca. 21 cm.
