Habitat

It is common in gardens, fynbos, forests and costal scrub.



Sources

The Southern Double-collared Sunbird or Lesser Double-collared Sunbird is endemic in South Africa and Namibia.



Further information

The sunbirds feeds mainly on nectar small insects and spiders. The birds of paradise flower (strelizia) is often visited by the birds.

The model shows a male sitting on the perch of the plant. Its weight cause a bending downwards and let the two blue petals flap open and decover the stamens, which are transfered by birds feet to another plant. This nature mechanism is base of the idea shading buildings. More informations you will find here.




Description of the model:

The model was cast using high quality epoxy resin, reinforced with glassfibres. It was coloured using non-fade paint and varnish. We use glass eyes.
