Hadrosteus rapax ("Rapacious Strong-Bone") is an extinct genus of arthrodire placoderm fish that existed during the Late Devonian period. The model is based on the reconstruction by e. Stensiö.
Stensiö E. Anatomical Studies on the Arthrodiran Head. Part 1. Preface, geological and geographical distribution, the organisation of the arthrodires, the anatomy of the head in the Dolichothoraci, Coccosteomorphi and Pachyosteomorphi. Taxonomic appendix. Kungliga Svenska Vetenskapsakademiens Handlingar, ser 4. 1963;9(2):1–419.
The constructed colouration, seems to be very conspicious, but Hadrosteus rapax was predator who hunted fish in the Devonian reefs. With this colouration he might be nearly inconspicious between the colourful corals.
We offer two different models in order to show several fish in a diorama. A femal and male version which have different tail fins, eye-colour and colouration.
The models were cast using high quality epoxy resin, reinforced with glassfibres and were coloured using non-fade paint and varnish.
The eyes are made of glass.
